Working with the Shadow

helps us recover the full vitality of our primal instinctual nature. Found in every emotional aspect of our humanity, much of our original power is subdued or disowned (placed in the shadow-the hidden part of our personality) when we, as children, developed our egos and adopted our strategies for life. But what served us well at four or fourteen, may impede us later in life. In shadow work we use guided inner journeying, voice dialog, group work and other awareness techniques. First we become aware, then accept and embrace and eventually integrate the disowned emotional energy of our deeper selves. It's a process. Everyone works at their own pace within the support and safety of the group. It is difficult and exhilarating. We are capable of living far more creative and satisfying lives.

Although this work can be done alone, group work is very powerful. It has a synergistic benefit as we see ourselves reflected in others and accepted by others. We are relational beings. Our personalities were developed in relationship. Our presence and gifts are shared in relationship. Relationship was the vehicle of our development and remains the goal of our individual journey.

Collin's approach to transformational work and self-inquiry results from his lengthy participation in Contemplative Christianity, Zen Buddhism, Western Depth Psychology, and Taoist Qigong. He has taught Qigong for the past twenty years and led shadow groups for the past five years.
